Sherman Balch, vice president and owner of Balch Enterprises, Inc. of Hayward, Calif., was elected president of the Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) at its annual meeting on March 1.

Phil Kopf, president of The Kopf Consulting Group in Atlanta, Ga. was elected vice president and president-elect, while Bob Truitt of Dayton-Richmond Concrete Accessories (Dayton, Ohio) was elected as Secretary-Treasurer. Michael F. Sugrue, PE, of LJB Engineers & Architects (Dayton, Ohio) and Shawn Hickey of SiteCast Cosntruction Corp. (Nepean, Ontario) were re-elected to the board as directors. They continue their service with existing board members Al Engelman of Engleman Construction, Inc. (Macungie, Pa.) and Eduardo Trueba Buenfil of IIRISA Construction (Estado de Mexico, Mexico).

TCA was founded in 1986 to improve the quality and acceptance of tilt-up construction, a construction method in which concrete wall panels are cast on-site and tilted into place. Tilt-Up construction is one of the fastest growing industries in the United States, combining the advantages of reasonable cost with low maintenance, durability, speed of construction and minimal capital investment. At least 4,000 buildings, enclosing more than 620 million square feet, are constructed each year using this construction method.
